Friday night, in a race Broadcast on Hot Wings Live, Hammer Martin returned to his house in Victory Lane at the Clay by the Bay, East Bay Raceway Park. In the first 360 Sprint Car Race of the 2009 season, American Sprint Car Series and Lonnie Wheatley noted that “just one week ago, Sarasota’s Danny Martin, Jr., didn’t have any concrete plans to compete in this weekend’s 33rd Annual Winter Nationals at East Bay Raceway Park.”

“A last minute decision to piece things together paid off though. In fact, it paid off to the tune of a wire-to-wire win in the season-opening 25-lap feature event for the American Sprint Car Series Rebel Region atop East Bay’s 1/3-mile clay oval.

And, more importantly, it locked Martin into Saturday night’s Eighth Annual Ronald Laney Memorial feature event, which is now slated to pay $12,500 to the winner.

“We’re wanting to race a lot this year, but the funds are running awfully low right now,” the 22-year-old commented afterward. “A win tomorrow night would help out a bunch.”

Lady Luck was on Martin’s side throughout the night, as he jumped into the redraw after gaining an extra position in his heat race following the disqualification of Brock Mayes, who lost a muffler.

Martin then drew the pole position for the 25-lap feature event, gunned into the lead at the outset and led all the way to capture his fourth career ASCS Regional win aboard the Martin Structures No. 00, commenting that, “I’m just glad to be here, a week ago we didn’t think we were gonna be able to run this one.”

Martin fought off several bids from four-time Lucas Oil ASCS National champion Gary Wright along the way, as Wright settled for runner-up honors in his debut aboard the Lubbock Wrecker Service No. 9x entry.

Gene Lasker climbed from eighth to snare the show position, with Tony Bruce, Jr., taking the fourth and final lock-in position to Saturday’s Ronald Laney Memorial.

Travis Rilat raced from 14th to round out the top five, with Jason Sides, Lou Kennedy, Jr., Greg Leonard, Cale Conley and Terry Gray completing the top ten.

Tyler Godwin, Sides, R.J. Johnson, Kennedy and Jesse Hockett topped heat race action for the 47-car field, with Matt Tiffany, Rilat, Gray and Godwin winning the “B” Mains. Tiffany was the first to exit the “A” Main when he encountered engine problems, while Hockett surrendered the third position prior to the midway point with mechanical woes.” Thanks to Rich Vleck and Lonnie Wheatley of ASCS and Hot Wings Live. Saturday’s feature will be broadcast on High Speed Radio.

Martin Builds Engine and Wins at East Bay
Martin built the engine and the victory in Saturday night’s American Sprint Car Series Regional main event at East Bay Raceway Park – Martin wins again. In the Motorheads-powered Martin Structures No. 00, “The Hammer” led the only lap that counts, the one that mattered most, after a dramatic last lap pass of current series points leader Kenny Adams, Hammer wins. Adams appeared to be on his way to a second ASCS Rebel Region win of the year.

Rookie D.J. Hoelzle had the lead late in the race, but some late cautions enabled Danny Martin, Jr. to catch and pass Hoelzle with only a few laps left.

By Roby Helms – USCS Communications Director
COCHRAN, GA – Danny “The Hammer” Martin Jr. of Sarasota, FL won the 30-lap O’Reilly United Sprint Car Series feature race at Cochran Motor Speedway on Saturday night for the second straight year. Martin came from the seventh starting spot to take the lead with five laps to go in the Martin Structures, Inc. Schnee/ZRE.
Martin had an up and down night, as the 19-year-old driver started in the back of his heat race, worked his way up to the third spot, but spun in turn three with two laps to go. Martin came charging right back to finish fourth.
“George Gillespe at PRO Shocks gave me a new set up to try, and it really worked well for us,” Martin said. “We started in the back of the heat, when to the front, and then I spun it out. We came back to finish fourth, and I knew we had something. I really love this track!”
Martin also gave his Dad, Danny Martin Sr., a nice birthday present for the second straight year. This marked the fifth win for Martin on a family special occasion like a birthday, or an anniversary. Martin earned the Huggins Cams Hard Charger of the Race Award, and was also the SpeedMart Young Gun of the Race.

“The Hammer” Falls on Carolina
Danny “The Hammer” Martin Jr. paid a visit to North Carolina’s Thunder Valley and brought home his first American Sprint Car Series ASCS victory. The sprint car ace from Sarasota, Florida ran a new Mopar power plant in a new Schnee sprinter, as he swept through the heats and took the feature. Tire man Dewey Mixon and Crew Chief/Owner Danny Martin Sr. had the car perfectly set. The 2004 United Sprint Car Series’ USCS Runner Up beat the best of the American Sprint Car Series Southern Tour. The echoes from victory lane are still rolling through the hills.
The Food Grade Transport / Martin Structures / eStateTrafficSchool.com had never been to Thunder Valley. This was their first showing in Emmett Hahn’s sprint car series for 2005. MARTIN DROPS THE HAMMER FOR USCS WIN
ROME, GA – Danny “The Hammer” Martin of Sarasota, FL took his first United Sprint Car Series career win outside of Florida Sunday night at Rome Speedway. Martin put his Advance Auto Parts/eStateTrafficSchool.com http://eStateTrafficSchool.com / Martin Structures, Inc. Schnee/ZRE in the lead on lap three and then kept Terry Gray of Bartlett, TN behind him to post his second career USCS victory.

Martin’s first USCS career win came late last season at his home track, East Bay Raceway Park in Tampa, FL. Martin found the half-mile high banked clay oval at Rome, GA to his liking, as Gray was never able to make a bid for the lead.

“We’ve been working hard to get everything right with the race car, but the driver has been messing up a little bit,” Martin said after jazzing the packed house with a wing dance vicfont celebration. “Everything was just right tonight. I’ve got to thank my Mom and Dad for giving me the opportunity to make this happen. I’m glad I could give my Dad this Father’s Day present.”

Gray, the defending and three-time USCS National Champion, had to settle for second in the Goodson Farms/Wendy’s Maxim/Wesmar.

Pole sitter Jim Raptis of Marietta, GA led the first two laps of the race, and finished third in the Grissom Honda/Mazda J&J; Chrisco.

Steven Graham of Sydney, Australia started 11th and finished fourth in the Richard Petty Driving Experience Maxim/RPDE. Kenny Adams of Malabar, FL recovered from a flat tire on lap 18, and brought his Goodson Farms Shaw/Ott home in the fifth spot. Tom Winegardner Jr. of Pierson, FL was sixth in the Snap-On Tools J&J;/WRP.

Randy Helton of Palmetto, GA took the seventh spot in the Helton Transmission Maxim/ERI, and Chad Allum finished eighth in the Heintz Performance Allum/Allum, Chris Hill of Wedowee, AL started 16th and finished ninth in the Hill Brothers Air and Hydraulics Challenger/Gaerte.

Graham and Hill shared the Huggins Race Cams Hard Charger of the Race Award. R.J. Johnson of Wesley Chapel, FL rounded out the top ten in the RaceWear/Pin Rings J&J;/ZRE, and was the Rookie of the Race. Raptis and Martin brought the field down for the green flag, but it was Adams blasting from his third starting hole that took the lead down the backstretch. Adams never got credit for leading the lap, as a multi-car tangle in turn four brought out the caution flag, necessitating a complete restart.

When the field went back to green, it was Raptis grabbing the point followed by Martin, Gray, Adams, and Winegardner. Martin dove under Raptis coming off the fourth turn on lap three to take the lead. Gray and Adams worked around Raptis for second and third respectively on lap four, but Martin had already opened up a half-straightaway lead.

Martin was able to keep his distance in front of Gray, but on lap 15, the 18-year-old leader dodged a big bullet when he came up to lap Jeremy Scott of Franklin, GA. Something broke on Scott’s Vortex Bar and Grill Pro Lite/June Bug, and he almost collided with Martin, who had to take evasive action, but was able to recover and stay in the lead.

Gray and Adams were closing fast, but Scott spun coming off the second turn to bring out the caution flag. Martin was the leader for the restart, but he had the lapped car of Johnson between him and Gray. By the time Gray negotiated past Johnson, Martin had put a lot of real estate between himself and Gray.

Adams cut down a right-rear tire in turn three on lap 18 to bring out the third caution flag of the race. Adams went to the pits, replaced the tire, and returned for the restart at the tail of the field. This time, Gray restarted right on Martin’s rear nerf bar, but he still didn’t have anything to make a bid for the lead.

In preliminary action, Scott won his second straight Air Flow Research six-lap Power Dash, while Winegardner and Gray won the ten-lap heat races. Josh Harris of New London, NC received the Weld Racing Hard Luck Award after he hit the turn two wall during hot lap and flipped his Furr Transport Lightning/High Tech. The 16-year-old driver was uninjured.

USCS returns to the asphalt with visits to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, FL on Friday night, and to Montgomery Motor Speedway in Montgomery, AL on Saturday night. For more information about USCS visit the series web site at www.uscsracing.com.

150 mph Pumpkin Flies and Wins
fifth season in 2004
The Hammer kicked off his fifth season in 2004 in Florida with two top ten finishes, beating 2002 Nascar Champ Tony Stewart, winning two Hard Charger Awards, and did it all on a race broadcast on radio and streamed on the Internet – all within a stone’s throw of the Birthplace of Speed, Daytona International Speedway. National media, including SPEED TV and their racing daily show, SPEED TV News covered the kickoff of our 2004 campaign and has covered him in prime time on Speed News Update.

150 mph Pumpkin Flies and Wins
150 mph Pumpkin Flies and Wins
Tampa Bay, FL – October 31, 2003 – 17 year-old sprint car prodigy, Danny “Hammer” Martin, Jr. lapped many combatants who came to his home track, the pumpkin patch at East Bay Raceway Park. Martin chose to spend Halloween in his Sprint Car Driver’s uniform, piloting his special edition, 1500 pound, 150 mile per hour pumpkin / 360 Sprint Car.

Martin chased all challengers from his home field. After several weeks on the road, The Hammer invited 29 cars to bring it to his house to do battle on the Varnadore’s perfectly prepared 1/3rd mile oval. The #00 Martin Structures / Milk Movers, Inc. / http://www.eStateTrafficSchool.com Sprint car was outfitted and ready for the hunt by Papa Danny “Sledge Hammer” Martin, Sr.. Martin, Jr. then blasted and smashed a few pumpkins as he fired through back markers, like a “bullet with butterfly wings.”

A seal in Martin’s power steering unit blew out on lap 4, dumping scalding hot fluid in his lap. A failure of the power steering system in 2002 resulted in steering lock up and a trip into the hard concrete wall at East Bay’s turn one. That car was totalled. This time he drove the remaining 21 laps without power assist, uncertain whether his future included yet another tough meeting with the cold stone surrounding him.

The stars of the United Sprint Car Series (USCS) including future Sprint Car Hall of Famer, Kenny Adams, 2002 USCS Champion Terry Gray, and Martin’s Flying Pumpkin dominated the A Main feature at East Bay Raceway Park. Also making an appearance was Indy Racing League (IRL) shoe Jimmy Kite. Terry Gray and Kenny Adams are not likely to forget being chased like magpies from the big pumpkin’s patch.

USCS Stars Continue to Dominate Florida
USCS Stars Continue to Dominate Florida
Tampa Bay, FL – October 11, 2003 – 17 year-old prodigy, Danny “Hammer” Martin, Jr. http://www.HammerMartin.com from Sarasota, Florida, won his tenth feature of 2003. The stars of the United Sprint Car Series (USCS) including future Sprint Car Hall of Famer, Kenny Adams, young Danny “Hammer” Martin, Jr., and probable 2003 East Bay Raceway Park Track Champion, Johnny Gilbertson dominated the A Main feature at East Bay Raceway Park http://www.eastbayracewaypark.com , finishing first, second, and third.

The student became the teacher as Martin started on the sixth row and was one-half lap down to his teacher and friend Kenny Adams in the #4. Martin passed one of the Goodson Farms’ entries the #21 with Gilbertson at the wheel. Gilbertson was one of many who tasted Martin’s malodorous methanol moistened mud. Martin then went to work on Adams, turned a dozen consistent laps, passing everyone ahead of him and lapping about half of the field in the 25 lapper.

After passing ten cars, Martin in the #00 Martin Structures / Milk Movers, Inc. / http://www.eFloridaTrafficSchool.com Sprint car began to pressure Adams. For the second time in their last two meetings at East Bay, Martin hammered Adams into submission. Martin put the whip to Adams between turns three and four, taking the lead on lap 18. Adams, with 23 Feature wins in 2003, finished second in the Goodson Farms / Putnam County Speedway 360 Sprint car. Adams led 18 of the 25 lap feature, looping the car in turn three and amazingly driving across the infield, dodging photographers including national media, going airborne across the berm inside of turn 4 and holding off Goodson Farms’ team mate Gilbertson, who finished third.

For Hammer, the event was a warm-up for this month’s United Sprint Car Series’ Fall Brawl http://uscsracing.com . Martin will tour Florida, stopping at Volusia Speedway Park, sponsor Robert Potter’s Putnam County Speedway, and will spend Halloween in his Sprint Car Driver’s costume on October 31 and November 1, 2003 at his home track, Tampa Bay’s East Bay Raceway Park. Driving the DUIFla.com, LLC / Martin Structures, Inc. 360 Sprint Car and starting from outside Row 2, Hammer ran with the big dogs, in a high horsepower, seriously slippery, slidefest.

Fellow competitor, Casey Johnson, did an endo during the heat race, borrowed a wing from Hammer, who helped him set the car up, in a great showing of sportsmanship.

Danny finished the 2002 racing season third in points in the 360 sprint car division at East Bay Raceway.     2002 FINAL POINTS SPRINTS- Brian Maddox (82) 1300, Daryl Smith (3) 1199, Danny ”Hammer” Martin Jr. (00) 1045, Paulie Milum (42) 936, Joe Melnick (8M) 905, Roland Johnson (72) 701, Sport Allen (88) 688, Casey Johnson (31) 657, Greg Leonard (94) 463, Mike Senecal (4) 462, Ken Elliott (9) 454, Tim Holston (21) 436, Robert Smith (3R) 381, Frank Carlsson Jr. (20) 365, Tom Winegardner Jr. (11) 333, Mike Tharp (91) 265, Tommy Thompson (3T) 261, Ike Walker (19) 252, Micheal Smith (22) 228, Tom Winegardner Sr. (11) 221, Neal LaRose (33) 215, Clyde Poole (85) 179, Sheldon Kinser Jr. (22) 154, Johnny Gilbertson (6) 116, Taylor Andrews (88T) 108

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is his favorite NASCAR driver and locally he admires Kenny Adams, Casey Johnson, Robbie Smith and Sport Allen.   His goal is to go NASCAR or World of Outlaws.
Hammer would like to thank his sponsors and his family.   To the fans Hammer says, “thanks for coming and supporting the racing”.
Take a trip down into the pit area some Saturday night and get to meet one of racings future stars Hammer Martin, you will be glad you did and you too will be a fan of the #00 sprint car.
Hammer Martin too young for the road, so he hit the track.
